Try having him do an apple cider vinegar rinse. We just pour it on after a shampooing, let is sit on the scalp a bit, and then rinse it off. Not necessary daily, but 2 or 3 times a week will help.

If he has been using the same shampoo, maybe it is time to switch to another brand - especially if cheap-o shampoos. See a beautician and ask for a recommendation for a Matrix product for his hair type. They are good quality. Fructus and Pantene are store brands that are reliable. Stay away from Suave. When I was young I had dandruff and got H&S and found that it actually perpetuated the problem, as most medicated shampoos do. I stopped using it, got a quality shampoo and it cleared up!

When my 16 yo son was having that problem, I actually shampooed for him a couple times with his head in the sink. We decided that the flakes were actually because he wasn't scrubbing his scalp when he shampooed. The skin under hair dries and flakes off just like other skin. A good rubbing helped keep old skin cells sloughed away. When he learned to apply some pressure to the scalp and srub, the flakes cleared up.

Your local health food store will have some good options for shampoos too. We like Nature's Gate.

It could also be diet related. Does he have many Vit E rich foods in his diet? Does he eat a lot of refined sugars and processed foods? Allergy can trigger flakes. A diet change may be in order.

Lots of possible reasons and solutions, those were the first that came to mind.

Head and Shoulders is best I have found.

I have found Pine Tar shampoo to be quite effective, available at most supplement stores, like GNC or Super Supplements.

you need to find out why.
if its psoriasis or parasites or nutrition or ..
the cures are all different. and a cure fro one can make the other condition worse.

1. natural remedies can be used after a dematologist figures the cause.

2. or you can experiment on your kid.

i recommend #1

U can apply vinegar on the scalp, use acotton ball to apply or u can apply lime juice .Keep it for 20-25 minutes and then shampoo your hair. Do this for a month and see the difference

GO to your local HAIR SUPPLY STORE and buy this shampoo called uplifting shampoo, this works really great,....while it cleans and de-tangles the hair, it also uplifts the dandruff from the scalp , giving you a nice tingly feeling while washing the hair

actually this is gross but mix an egg and mayonaise together, and put it on your hair like a hair mask, get like a shower cap to wear while you keep it on, i say keep it on like 30 mins, its so gross but it puts more oil into your scalp.

Try neutrogena's T-Gel.

He might have pityrosporum its an over growth of a yeast that is humans normally have. Sometimes excessive sweating can cause it to over grow and cause dandruff.

If he wear a baseball cap he should avod wearing it until the dandruff is under control. And if he is in a sport where he needs to wear it make sure the cap is always clean.

The sweat from his scalp is likely dripping down to his his eyebrows spreading the yeast.

Tea tree oil is an anti-fungal that is commonly used for dandruff cause by this overgrowth.

Look for shampoo with at least 5% Tea tree oil.
You can find Dandruff Shampoo with tea tree oil in health food stores. It will significantly reduce if not get rid of the dandruff over time.
As long as he does not get the shampoo in his eyes he can also use it to wash his brows.

Good luck! Take care of this before it spreads.
This yeast can spread to the little hairs all over his body (through sweating) and cause horrible itching.

Make a pasty mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda.. massage into scalp..rinse. Then rinse with ACV alone. You will need to do this a couple of times per week.

For the eyebrows, rub the ACV over the eyebrows every night.

Are you sure it's dandruff? It could be psoriasis, which is very commonly mistaken as dandruff. Get his dr to check it out. That said, you can use vinegar, which works well. Wash it into his hair and leave it on with a towel wrapped around his head for about 15 minutes. Then wash it out with shampoo as normal. This works pretty well.

Of course, there are many shampoos out there that help. My favourite is T-Gel by Neutragena. They make one for dandruff and one for psoriasis as well so he may want to try that.

Cut off all his hair and his eyebrows
