I wish to stop "smoking" but how?!

Question: In the past I tried the "patch" it gave me a irregurlar heart beat. Tried "chantix" made me very ill. Tried nicotine gum etc..burned my mouth. Tried just quitting cold turkey but ate everything in sight! I've had 2 strokes & I'm 44,any idea what else there is out there to try? Been smoking 2-3 packs a day since 10 years old.Thank you.

If you have an ipod and/or sit in front of your computer a lot, I suggest you get the anti-smoking cd from www.thinkrightnow.com, and also their subliminal software for windows. Read what they have to say. I think it is the best product - and reasonably priced - for helping you reprogram yourself to be a non-smoker with very little effort. There is a lot of research that proves that affirmations work. What usually doesn't work is US, because we don't take the time to write them and say them to ourselves. This product does that work for us. You can listen to it any time, no matter what you are doing. I have found it works for me in several areas.

Next, you need a major detox, both to release you from your nicotine addiction and to do some safe roto-rootering on your circulatory system. Detoxing can be hard-core fast or easy-does-it slow, and in your condition, there is a case for both approaches.
100% Raw Vegan diets with lots of greens can do wonders (like the Sunfood Diet Success System).

It actually sounds like you are living on the brink of an emergency. If you want to try a raw food detox, but don't think you can accomplish it on your own, you might consider getting away at one of the many Raw Food Retreat houses. Optimum Health Institute has them near Austin, TX and San Diego, CA. Michigan has the Creative Health Institute, I believe, and Gabriel Cousins has Tree of Life in Arizona. There is also one in Florida, forget the name, and somewhere in the southeast (NC?) is Hallelujah Acres (features an 80% raw diet, see below). The last time I checked, OHI was the most reasonably priced.

Doing a colon cleanse with an easy-to-use product that lets you live a normal life while being very effective will really help (see www.DrNatura.com).

80% Raw Vegetarian diets have been very effective for many (The Hallelujah Diet, for example). If those seem too extreme, and you want to keep meat in your life, consider The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin, or the Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates, which includes foods that help knock out cravings, too. No matter what your disease process, cleaning out the gut and replenishing the healthy microflora is essential.

You will need to improve your nutrition to get rid of the cravings for both nicotine and "everything in sight." If your are filling up on mostly raw foods and at least 1-2 lbs of greens daily, this will begin to heal you and to decrease the amount of food you crave. An easy way to increase greens is by adding them to a smoothie with a base of banana and some frozen berries. You can find some free recipes somewhere on Val Archer's sites: http://www.eatsprouts.com/blend/green.ht...

Third, keep that oxygen moving through your system. There is a supplement called Microhydrin from Royal Body Care (also goes by Megahydrate by GHC, more concentrated, better value for the money imo) that has been shown to improve oxygenation to the body. If you've been having strokes, it might be nice if you have a little extra help keeping oxygenated while you have them! I once heard a testimonial about someone who overcame a cocaine addiction by taking this supplement. It is a powerful and safe antioxident that helps alkalize the body, which will also help your body detoxify. With your history, you need it.

Do you suffer from sleep apnea? Check out the symptoms online. If any of them match your symptoms, get a doctor to order a sleep study for you. When you have apnea, you tend to stop breathing at night, which can mess with your heart beat, maybe leading to clots. On all fronts, that is less oxygen to the brain, and puts you at risk for more strokes. Smoking isn't the only thing that causes strokes.

IV chelation for heavy metals and other toxins is actually really good at cleaning out blood vessels

wow try just cutting down how much u smoke then just stop after u think i dont need it anymore

I honestly don't know the answer. I quit cold turkey about a month ago and somehow did it. I wish I could help you but the only thing I can tell you for sure is that if you really want to quit then you need to keep trying! Good luck!

well..just think of this...After ppl pack the cigarettes they first shove them up their pee hole, or anus...ewww..so imagine..ur inhaling someone else's crap..jaa

The gum made my cravings WORSE.

I know how bad the cravings are, how much you rationalize it & dream of the next puff...YOU have to just fight that monkey on your back with every ounce of your being, it's harder than cocaine I know.

Weird but, expose yourself to strep throat & get it bad...Smoking with strep throat is the worst pain & you will at least give it up for a few days easily which might be the push you need!

I smoked with strep throat, yes it hurt, but not enough to quit.
I smoke about a pack a day and i'd like to know just as much as you how to quit. Im pretty sure its mostly just willpower in the end and the ability to suffer greatly.

Just ask yourself this question .. do I want to live ?
The addiction is killing you slowly .. you need to be strong mentally and stop for good. There's no magic pill that would make you stop. It's pure guts and a strong will to stay healthy. Kick the habit now before it's too late.

Trust me, go back with the chantix. I got slight nausea from it, but it would always pass within 1/2 hour, and then I was fine, just take it right before you go to sleep, it really is a wonder drug, I am now quit for 3 months and have no urge to go back.

Here's what I did-
Cut down as much as possible. Stay at that level about a week. Then start hand rolling your ciggys (you can get yummy tobacco, papers, and rolling machines at local tobacco and pipe stores). Roll a few each day to take with you. This gets your body away from the chemicals. This is the hardest step because you start to crave the chemicals in the store bought brands. Then begin to roll each ciggy as you need it. This will make you put effort into smoking instead of just lighting up without thinking about it. It will become a pain in your ***, and you will probably cheat and try the store bought kind again, but hopefully they will seem gross to you because they are so chemical-ie. You are then going to have to make a concious decision to stop. Try chewing gum or candy to keep your oral fixation from getting out of control.
Be sure to realize this is a process, not a quick fix, but it was the only way it worked for me.

I have a copy of an ebook on stopping smoking that I could share with you. Email me at healthy.woman@yahoo.com

i tried using those commit lozenges. they are actually very effective and i really liked them. however, i am a smoker again but i did quit for 6 months using them. sounds like that is one of the only options you havent explored yet. good luck. i wish for you good health!
