WATER OR BLACK COFFEE ARE THE ONLY THINGS YOU CAN HAVE. BEFORE LAB WORK THAT REQUIRES YOU TO BE FASTING. GREEN TEA CAN THIN THE BLOOD. SO IF YOU WERE HAVING A PT TEST YOU COULD GET A FALSE READING. IF YOUR LABS HAVE A GLUCOSE IN THEM YOU COULD GET A FALSE READING DUE TO THE SWEETENERS IN THE TEA. STICK WITH THE WATER OR BLACK COFFEE. MOST LAB TEST ONLY REQUIRE 8 HOURS FASTING. IF YOU NEED MORE INFO LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP. IF I KNEW WHAT TEST YOU WERE HAVING I COULD GIVE YOU MORE DETAILS. GOOD LUCK

keep to the rules for now.

If you are talking about peppermint or spearmint or chamomile without sweetener then you are going to be OK. If they are doing a glucose tolerance test, then you want to avoid anything with sugar or honey. Stay away from grain beverages like Postum. Any really esoteric tea you need to be careful about. Some herbs affect blood sugar and probably other values they might look at. And certainly, nothing with caffeine. GDP

Everything but water has the potential to screw up the blood test or give mixed biased results.

Why would you risk having the blood test come back saying you need to do another one because you drank something else besides water during the before fast period, do you like blood tests that much?

If I had a blood test for, I presume, narcotics for a job, I would be drinking nothing but spring water for a week. If it a test for your physical ie sugar and cholesterol, it probably would be okay.
