Both have their uses and have been helpful to lots of people in one way or another. I would consider chinese medicine more of a preventive medicine and deals more with root causes of the problem instead of just the synptoms.

Western medicine deals more with symptoms and focuses more on pharmaceutical drugs and not as much on nutrition as it should. If you combine both, I believe that this would benefit more people.

Before western medicine came along more people became ill from outbreaks of disease because of economics, education and lack of sanitary conditons.

More people develop cancer today than before western medicine. 1 in two men will develop cancer in their lifetime, whereas a 1 in 3 women will develop it. Before the advent of western medicine way more people did not develop cancer. I believe that the numbers were more like 1 in 1000 people developed cancer in their lifetime a decade ago. We depend mainly on western medicine and technology to improve our lives. I am not saying that these have not been helpful, but that people need alternatives and more choices instead of just one way. Chinese medicine has worked for me and is not a false medicine. Anyone who says this is not very knowledgeable about it. In fact for my health conditions it has been more helpful to me than conventional medicine, though I rely on it also to help me. I did not wish to be on medication for the rest of my life, but with herbs and chinese medicine I have been able to get well and have better health because of it and God almighty.

And to answer your question fully. It really depends on who you ask. I personally believe that chinese medicine is better. I cannot have a person who has just studied chinese medicine to operate on me, but if he or she were knowledgeable about both herbs, nutrition, and conventional medicine, they would be an excellent doctor to go to.

western medicine is based on evidence while traditional Chinese medicine(like acupuncture i assume you mean) is based on some unobservable unproven "life energy", honestly why would you trust a form of medicine that has claimed to cure something before the germ theory came along and actually layed out the cause of most of our illnesses with experimental validity?

Western medicine by far. While traditional Chinese medicine does contain some effective compounds to treat some diseases, as soon as this is shown by testing in any way the medicine becomes part of western medicine in a more accurate controlled way. This means western medicine contains all the best aspects of Chinese medicine without the large number of ineffective treatments. Western medicine has also been shown through medical trials to be effective, where as Chinese traditional medicine is not held to the same high standards.

There isn't a simple answer, that's why it's still a question with you. Some ailments are best treated by Western medicine, while others are best treated with traditional Chinese medicine. Try both and see which one works better for whatever it is you have.

Chinese herbal medicine isn't snake oil. It really does heal some things very well. I particularly like their attitude of not telling the patient what is wrong, but rather telling the patient what to do to get well. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Chinese medicine has been around for thousands of years. This is what the alt-med people like to use as their proof that it must work. This is known as a logical fallacy.

It wasn't until after modern (Western) medicine came along that life expectancy when up signifigantly. People stopped dying from minor illnesses and infections.

As a medical professional myself I am stunned at how many people fall for mystical cures.

Western medicine, in all reality, started on Feb. 12, 1941. That was the first use of penicillin. Prior to about 60 years ago, doctors could administer insulin, a few thyroid products and set bones. Aside from that they could lend a kind hand and watch the person get better or get worse but really didn't 'treat' a patient.

Now... western medicine uses post 1940's treatments. Eastern mystical healing relies on mistaken belief systems that predate the germ theory and often even before the rediculous ideas of the four humors of the body. It is mumbo-jumbo.

One of the reasons that eastern medicine is still being pushed by some countries is that it is cheap and kills people. Poor countries like China and even socialist countries like Great Britain can not afford western medicine for their population and have been softly pushing eastern magical thinking to offset the cost.

It is sad.

It depends on the person. Western medicine has helped many. As for me I tried every western doctor imaginable and they had no answer for my health issues. I decided to try Chinese medicine and got an answer immediately. No doctor knows everything. People must take responsibility for their health and not put it all on a doctor, whether western or Chinese.

Chinese medicine is the healthiest for you.

I believe that Western medicine is evil. It is harmful chemicals for your body, many side effects, and dependency. And are expensive. I believe that doctors and psychiatrists are encouraged by the multi billion dollar drug companies to prescribe as many medications to people as possible. That's why almost everyone you know is prescribed to at least a couple medications for "depression," "ADHD," "anxiety," "bipolar"...plus the treatments for people with Cancer and Aids don't really help much, except for make the companies richer...there have been wonderful herbal cures for certain diseases but the FDA made them illegal because it would mean that they would lose millions of dollars.

So please, do yourself a favor and stay away from modern medicine. To the FDA, it is all about the money. They don't care about you.

The simple answer is that there is no "better" system. They both work well in certain areas of wellness/health.

If you broke bone, are having a stroke, or having a myocardial infarction, then you'd better be getting treatment by Western medicine. Hands down, cannot be beat.

If you are experiencing chronic pain, illness, asthma and allergies, or other medical issues that are not responding to "conventional" treatment, then you should be trying Traditional Chinese Medicine. It often works when standard treatments are unsuccessful. It's a less invasive procedure, and has less negative side-effects.
