home-made cures for the common cold?!

Question: Home-made cures for the common cold?
i caught a cold from my brother and tomorrow night i'm going to a concert with my girlfriend that we've had tickets for since christmas. the symptoms are: fever complete with chills (my normal temp is 97.1 and my current temp upon waking up this morning was 101.5) a heavy, mucusy cough, a stuffy/runny nose. i've been drinking a lot of water and powerade, and i've been taking ibuprofen every 4 hours or so to keep the fever in check, but are there any other methods i can use to speed up the process? i rested all day yesterday and i plan on resting all day today.

Stop taking the ibuprophen. :)

Yes, the fever makes this fairly clearly a flu and not just a cold. And yes, your immune system will fight it off. But the fever is a big part of HOW your immune system fights it off, so by killing the fever you're hobbling your immune response.

Fevers are not dangerous until they're above 104.5F (in adults) and a fever of about 102-102.5 is ideal for immune response. So have a hot shower, wrap up in a thick comfy blanket, support that fever... and try to sleep it off. Drink LOTS of fluids to stay hydrated. Check that temp every hour or so... if it gets above 103, check it every 15 min. If it gets to 104, you'll want to try a neutral shower to cool it down a few degrees. You can also soak some woolie socks in peppermint tea and put them on to cool that temp a bit.

Echinacea and Goldenseal (herbs) will also increase white blood cell production (and are mildly anti-viral) so they may help speed healing time a little. And I have an excellent garlic and onion syrup recipe that will also help - great cough syrup and anti-viral activity. Email me if you're interested.

All of this said... if you have a fever, you're contagious. I know it sucks, but I'd recommend NOT going to that concert. (Sorry. Is it really worth getting all of the people sitting near you at the concert sick too?) If you do insist on going, be careful not to cough/sneeze without a tissue completely covering your mouth and nose. Avoid touching shaking hands and touching door knobs, etc. unless you've just washed your hands. (And wash them often!) And overall make best efforts not to breathe on other people. IE: No screaming and cheering, it's impossible to avoid getting spittle on people around you. LOL

Feel better soon!

You shouldn't run a fever with a cold...you might have a flu. Wearing a warm neckscarf will help, wear it in the house, all the time. I found that peppermint oil, although it burns sometimes for a minute, put under my nose, clears my sinuses completely, keeping the stuff from draining down my throat into my lungs, and giving nothing for the bacteria to thrive on. This I found out after 4 colds in a row...I have not had a cold since I started using the peppermint oil.

i got this goddamn cold thats why i search for google and wiki says there are no cure ...then endsup here

There is no cure for the common cold. Your best option is OTC cold and flu medication from a pharmacy to effectively manage the symptoms.

There are no cures, home-made or otherwise, for the common cold. Only time and your immune system will defeat it.
