I don't know regarding brands except to say buy from a reputable source/supplier. A tincture is usually better absorbed than a tablet.
But more important, if you are on any prescribed medications and/or you have any medical condition you will need to talk to your doctor or pharmacist first before taking St Johns wort. It is known to interact with some drugs**.... and some persons (based on their medical condition) will need to avoid it altogether. It also makes your skin and eyes more vulnerable to UV rays so anyone using it needs to make sure they wear good quality full UV protecting sunglasses and a very good mineral based sunscreen in strong sunlight.
**It increases a liver enzyme(s) that breaks down drugs....thus lowering the therapeutic level of some drugs.
Regular brisk walking and other regular exercise and enjoying fine weather boosts feel good endorphins. Make sure you eat a well balanced diet, and get 7-8 hours sleep a night in a darkened room (for optimum melatonin production).
Best wishes.
They are completely unregulated. Really. I would strongly suggest dietary changes, which are more effective than herbal medicine anyway. Talk to a nutritionist or doctor about your specific needs.
