does drinking alcohol help your nerves before a presentation?!

Question: Does drinking alcohol help your nerves before a presentation?
aLso how many shots is good to calm your nerves but not to get too drunk for a presentations?

Answers:

Yes it does help but how much you need depends on your capacity. Some people might get disoriented after a single drink whereas a seasoned drinker might be OK for the presentation after several drinks.

Probably the best strategy is to write out your entire speech before the presentation so you can read it out. In that case there is no possibility that you might get stuck for words as you are relying on a written prepared speech and you probably wouldn't even need a drink or two to soothe your nerves.

I guess it might - BUT

* Nerves before a presentation is pretty common - and, often, is part of the 'buildup' - if you haven't done a presentation before, you may find that once you stand up to start, it all goes away.

The 'Dune' novel(s) contains a quote which has stayed with me since I first read it (I do a bit of public speaking, and I always suffer from nerves beforehand - this is my 'pre-appearance mantra'):

"Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

(It actually starts off with "I must not fear", but I don't agree with that bit, so I leave it out!)

The reality is that you are going to do the presentation anyway - dealing with the fear yourself leaves you with an amazing high afterwards, when you know you conquered it. I don't believe it's ever a good idea to try and anaesthetise our feelings.

well yes, but don't overdo it. A double singl malt is about right for me

lol not a good idea.
