Why do so many people give weed a bad name?!

Question: Why do so many people give weed a bad name?
I hate how everyone gets this negative impression of weed. So many people abuse the hell out of it that most people do not realize that it can be a positive thing too. I use it medically in a sadly not medical state. I do not smoke huge joints or other ridiculous amounts of it. I only take a few hits and use it at a more medical dose just like the real medical patients do. The problem is that it s hard for me to have a positive effect on people opinions on marijuana. The thing is that no one knows I smoke since I like all the other smart smokers do not go around yelling "I smoke weed homie'! I just wish people would acknowledge that people like me get a lot of benefits from their use of marijuana.

Answers:

Weed has a generally negative impression because it has been classified as a drug of abuse, and we are mostly indoctrinated to believe that this is a bad thing. So because people believe that, therefore their "logical" conclusion is that anyone who partakes from it is a stoner, a loser, an addict etc.

It is only recently that research has started looking into the medicinal use of cannabis. As with any research, there is both positive and negative "proof". Some say it IS beneficial, some say it only does harm. Depending on what your personal beliefs are, you are going to support whatever research suits your camp. The changing of attitudes is going to take time. For example, for a long time being gay was considered wrong (in some circles it still is), but overall it is now much more accepted.

I personally am not so fond of cannabis users, due to having worked as a psychiatric nurse and having seen too many young teens become psychotic due to a predisposition to schizophrenia, and aggravating it by smoking weed and trying to be cool.
Having said that, I do appreciate the benefits cannabis can bring to people with chronic pain syndromes, cancer, spastic conditions and such.
For someone such as yourself, who takes it in moderation, for a valid reason, I don't see why people have to make an issue out of it. It is obviously based on their own prejudices.

I think people like the Grateful Dead and Phish are stand up people do weed justice but people like Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson and Seth Rogen give weed a bad name. Basically they make pot consumers look like idiots.

I'm a non-consumer so it's appropriate for me to tell you who represents marijuana well and who does not.

I think that marijuana is not always a bad thing, but most people use it to numb themselves and most people I know that smoke it cannot have fun or relax without it. This is not really a good dependency if you are repressing your problems and feeling like crap without it. You shouldn't need Maryjane to fix your emotional problems. That is just my two cents

BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT WOULD ALWAYS LIE ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO THE PUBLIC AND ACTUAL DRUGS ARE KILLING PEOPLE AND THE "LEGAL DRUGS" ARE TAKING PEOPLES HARD EARNED MONEY. CANNIBIS IS A PLANT NOT A DRUG!

Because unlike you, most people abuse it.

You can't keep on like this.

The person who made it illegal, is the one who gave it a bad name.

they have an apple shoved up their ***

are you high?

Then we should all start smoking it, right?

I think not.

It gets a bad name, because like you say, the typical user is a douchebag. But not just that, the negative effects of it are very numerous, despite what the pro marijuana websites would like to say. For real information about what it really does, people should be looking in chemical dependency and neuropsych textbooks. Ironic that the people against the drug are also uneducated, or they could make quite a case.

At any rate, the main thing causing it to have a bad name is that it does absoultely slow motor functions, result in less energy and activity, and slow reaction time significantly. The result, the stereotypical pothead that people give a bad name to.

Don't get the wrong idea either, I am 100% for the legalization of marijuana, but I'm here to answer the question, not complain about our legal system :)

i know what youre saying. weed has been given a bad name for a number of reasons. It used to actually be americas number one crop back in the early 1900's. basically what happened was they were using hemp for everything, from medicine to rope to fuel. When they started using it for fuel big petroleum companies saw this as an economical threat for their companies. they started a large anti marijuana campaign and helped fund the movie reefer madness. in this film they depicted blacks and other minorities as the users of this, as it was a time of racism at one of its high points. All these factors led the general population to beleive that marijuana was harmful and bad. The bottom line answer to your question is that it was paid to be made illegal and represented in the wrong way before all the benefits and pros could be made known.

google, the union: the buisness behind getting high. they explain everything you need to know about marijuana including a brief history. very educational actually and im a frequent smoker so watching this was kinda cool.

weed is n illegal drug and although you may feel beifits from it there are so many other llegal ways to get those feelngs too
