No, it is not more effective if the "pure" hydrocodone is swallowed. The purpose of adding the Tylenol is to boost the pain killing/pain blocking effect of the medication. By extracting the Tylenol, you are removing one component of the pain relieving compound.

There are those who believe that Cold Water Extraction will remove the Tylenol and leave them with "pure" hydrocodone. based on this misinformation, they attempt to inject the drug into their veins. This is a bad idea - a very bad idea. For starters, inert ingredients are added to the Tylenol-Hydrocodone mixture. Talc is one of those ingredients. The talc (and other binders) can clog up the vein or it can settle into the lungs. Either way, there can be severe consequences (including death). Removing the talc and other binders requires lots of glassware and some "nasty" chemical solvents such as chlorobenzene. In addition to this, the yield is only about 15%.

In order for both codeine and hydrocodone to work, it must be metabolized through the liver and converted into to morphine and hydromorphone. The oral route allows for metabolism while IV administration doesn't allow for sufficient metabolism. Although it is possible to use the "brown method" - insert the compound into the backside - the effects are essentially the same as swallowing a pill.

So, to answer your question directly: No, it does not make it more effective, and it does not make it "hit" harder - regardless of the route of administration (oral, anal, or IV).
