Ways to get over a cold FAST?!

Question: Ways to get over a cold FAST?
I just got home from college for break. i spent the 3 weeks before break sick and finally got over it when I came home. Well 5 days later i'm sick AGAIN and I need ways to stop it before it last that long again. I've heard that green tea helps... what else can I do to make it GO AWAY, not just get rid of the symptoms? Thanks so much! :)

My regimen:
Take hot long shower - bring temp up, cough out bad - humid air inhale.
Humidifier run 24/7
Chicken soup very good!
Ester C 500 or more mg (Ester C type stays in system 24 hrs)
Cold-Eze, take lozenge. I do a no-no and that is I SLEEP with one packed into the side of my mouth. I have never choked, but in the morn, it makes a diff....sometimes there's still a little left in cheek.
Vitamin C lozenges are good, too
If ears are 'crackly' with noise, take a drop or two of rubbing alcohol and swish it around, then empty. This helps kill bacteria in ear canal. Great way to rid ear of chlorinated water from swimming, too.
Sleep very much.
Avoid drafts.
Forget about the 'fashion police', don that hat, scarf, double pants, goofy coat...whatever it takes to keep your body from chilling. You need to use your body to elevate it's temp to kill off the bug.
Keep hydrated. Water, orange juice. Avoid milk for now. No diuretics like coffee, beer, soda.
At the on-set of cold fronts, take an over the counter allergy med to head off allergens that may precede your susceptibility to colds.

Haven't had a cold since Winter of 2004

You can't, there's no cure for the common cold.
Best thing to do is sooth the symptoms and avoid situations where you're in close contact with people.
The younger you all the more chance you have of getting multiple colds in the same year.
Young children usually get around four per year. Older people less.

Reason, once you contract a particular cold virus your body creates the antibodies to kill it and you won't get that one again. You live long enough and you just might not get anymore colds.
That going on the assumption that mutations won't occur and create new cold viruses.

Sorry to tell you, but there is not much to do for a "common" cold ( as opposed to a flu ); do as the Dr.'s recommend: plenty of rest, fluids ( to flush out the cold germs ), and even good old chicken soup will help..................the cold virus just needs to run its' course; you can help to avoid getting viruses by washing your hands as often as possible :]

The other day I was sick and I drank Airborne all day which has like as much vitamin C in it as a gallon of orange juice. Its cheap, you put it in water and it dissolves. Also, take vitamins, Zinc helps a ton! Vitamin C, B, D and magnesium. This will boost your immune system a ton and drink lots of liquids.

Hot cups of echinacea tea plus vitamin C.
