Is smoking Marijuana bad if...?!

Question: Is smoking Marijuana bad if...?
Is smoking Marijuana bad if i smoke it once a week or when i feel anxiety from my past thoughts(fathers death). I am an Honor student in High school, also an athlete and, i am on my way trying to obtain my AA in Psychology, but my mom thinks smoking still is bad and wants to get me admitted in to marijuana rehab. I am not addicted and when i answered the addiction questions i answered no to all of them. So can some please give me or my mom any advice on this problem we are dealing with.
Thank you.

I understand where you are coming from, but here's the deal: smoking that stuff once a week because of anxiety is no good--because you cannot predict your anxiety attacks. In addition, it will lead to more smoking pot because it becomes a crutch--meaning everytime something happens you'll want one--and that can add up. It is always better to deal with the problems at hand. My dad died suddenly when I was 19 and I had to go through a lot to help my mother during the first 2 years. I had no time to deal with his death either but I didn't pick up pot or any other drug. You are a honor student so you also should know that the pot will show in your urine if you go for a job and in addition, it stays in your hair for 3 months. Try to deal with it--it is normal that you go through stages in your griev--from grieving to anger to more grieving and acceptance---trying not to deal with that can actually get you stuck in it--and that can lead to all sorts of problems......good luck

Tough question to answer. If you want to go by research, you will find answers both for and against.

In general though, recreational use in an adult without a predisposition to mental illness, smoking cannabis is not thought to cause problems.

I do think you may need to address your anxiety issues, rather than smoke cannabis, as this sounds like you are avoiding dealing with it. I am not saying stop smoking, but rather try and work through the issues that are causing the anxiety as well. Cannabis will only ever give temporary relief from anxiety, without dealing with the underlying causes.

If you mother believes you are addicted, perhaps you could show her you are not, by not smoking for a certain amount of time?

While generally I believe marijuana is fairly harmless, as the guy above me said you can't predict your anxiety attacks so how do you know the weed won't become a crutch for you?

Secondly, one of the few harmful effects weed has is that it can actually make anxiety worse. You might want to try something else to help yourself, like affirmations, self hypnosis, or meditation. Some chamomile tea can also help relax anxiety.

I was trying to look for advice for you but I only found this: http://www.abovetheinfluence.com/facts/d…
Not mattter how much you take it is a risk for your health either way.
I send my condolences,"Life has to work out in someway",Good luck in your future :)

Really you are in Psychology that is what I want to be in!!!!! :D

nothing in marijuana the plant is bad for you.......i am not a smoker but have seen alot of material on it. i would go for it..if it helps you than its all good. clinics are for people like you jut looking for some relief from the everyday stress

my boyfriend...smoked for 6 years now and hes very knowledgable about it

You may think it's helping you, but in the long run, it will seriously effect your professional credibility, as well as your own mental health. The more you use it, the more depressed you will be without it. It messes with your short term memory and can even make you borderline bi-polar. Do you think your father would want you doing it? I don't think so. The right choice is a no brainer.

smoking is not bad no matter how much you do. the only thing you should watch out for is the munchies, eating while high is actually what makes you unhealthy. oh and btw weed isn't addicting.

stoner:)

OMG tell your mom to hop off and chill out. Weed is fine, especially if you can maintain a successful life! I say good for you! 8)

Smoking marijuanna is only back if you get caught .

Smoking weed is far better than drinking booze or even taking prescription meds. Enjoy.

Smoke is bad for your physical health. Burned plant material (marijuana or anything else) when ingested (through the lungs or digestive system) is a known carcinogen. Use a vaporizer or bake the pot into something like brownies and you've eliminated this risk.

Psychologically speaking, marijuana has an amplifying effect. Whatever emotion/feeling/mood you have before being stoned tends to be exaggerated. If you're thinking about events in your life that you haven't completely reconciled mentally and emotionally, pot can offer an opportunity to take a higher perspective than you would normally (easily) have access to. For instance, if you're sad, cannabis can make you more sad but also help you understand the root of the issue causing the sadness. This can sometimes help people accept the issue and move on.

Pot can help a person become more introspective, self-aware and empathetic.

Marijuana can have the reverse effect: it can offer an opportunity for mental escape. Thoughts of fantasy and pleasant physical feelings are available with the plant as well. This path offers a chance for creative thinking and imaginative problem solving. This is what recreational users typically go after. If this describes you, smoking is an escape... not a way to grow beyond the emotional conflict of the parent you lost.

Physiologically speaking marijuana has no addictive qualities. No one ever went into withdrawals from not ingesting marijuana, no matter how much they used to smoke. Withdrawals happen with physical addictions (like alcohol, heroin, and caffeine).

Dr. Charles Tart conducted the first federally funded study on marijuana. He comments that when people talk of "psychological dependence" this is a "nonsensical use of the English language, for psychological dependence simply means that people tend to repeat enjoyable experiences." (On Being Stoned, Tart)

Cognitive functions can be diminished. Specifically short term memory is sometimes reduced while the psychoactive chemicals are in your system. This is most apparent 2 to 3 hours after smoking.

Because minds and personalities are still being shaped during teenage years (and several years beyond), marijuana should be used sparingly.

Note: If you begin suffering from couch-lock and lack of motivation, it's probably time to take a break.

Note2: Marijuana should offer a chance to better understand processes of human psychology. Archetypes as described by Carl Jung become more apparent with marijuana. Check out Charles Tart's work with Transpersonal Psychology for deeper explanations of what to expect. (see link)

If you are in the United States, be aware of the plant's legal restrictions. While it's safer than alcohol to consume, jail time can still be hazardous to your health.

Keep striving to improve yourself and the quality of life of those around you, and no matter what path you choose in life, you can relax knowing in the end "I did my best."
