From the research I have done in the past it is great for mild depression. I've never met anyone that will take it long enough to find out though. Like any other medication it can take a month or more before you start to notice a difference. 5-Hydroxytryptophan is a natually occuring amino acid. Tryptophan alone is the substance in turkey that makes you sleepy after eating it. 5-HTP increases the producion of serotonin which is the happy chemical in your brain. I would start out at 50 mgs daily for a few months. If there is no change, then up it to 100 mgs daily. I wouldn't go any higher than that. Also, DO NOT take 5-HTP if you are already taking antidepressants! Always make sure you tell your doctor you are taking 5-HTP to prevent any possible interactions.
