Advice about natural medicine career?!

Question: Advice about natural medicine career?
I'm considering becoming an MD and then studying natural medicine and/or chinese medicine afterwards. I'm a sophomore in college right now, so that means 9 more years until I'll be able to practice as a doctor and then probably 4 years after that until I'll have a degree related to natural medicine. That's 13 years until I'll be able to practice what i'm passionate about. On the other hand, if I go straight to natural medicine school, 80% of the patients I'd want to help will regard me as a scam artist. What do you think about this? Any advice or opinions are appreciated!

Stick to getting your MD, then going into specialization rather than going into the quack zone of "natural" medicine. If you get your medical degree, you will be exposed to science and evidence-based medicine. You will have access to new research, new drugs/treatments and new diagnostics to help your patients. You will be government regulated. You will have professional organizations who will give you continuing medical education. Your patients will respect you and will not "regard you as a scam artist."

I practiced for four years as a GP before going into residency. Before that I studied for 8 years getting my bachelors and my medical degree. In the end, I'll probably spend 16 years just to be a specialist. Regrets? None whatsoever! Being an MD is a commitment and you should be prepared to spend a lot of time getting to where you want. In the end, it will be so worth it. I promise you that.

It seems like a long time but you will have a career for life.

'Natural medicine school' will give you a 'qualification' recognized almost nowhere, leading you to regret many wasted years of your life. Unless you go into self-employment and don't mind bending the truth, you'll never make any money.

Qualify as an MD and you'll be helping people from day one.

Advice? Stick with conventional science based medicine.

I'd suggest sticking with science based medicine.
