what is wheat grass good for?!

Question: What is wheat grass good for?
What are the benefits of consuming wheat grass? I heard from a friend that it is very healthy but he is a habitual liar. Can someone please help?

Answers:

Wheatgrass helps to build blood. Dr. Robert Young, author of The pH Miracle & Steve Meyerowitz, author of Nature’s Finest Medicine, are two individuals credited with bringing attention to the fact that the chlorophyll molecule in Wheatgrass, is almost identical to the haemoglobin in human blood.
Because of this similarity, the body can easily transform chlorophyll into haemoglobin, increasing red blood cell count & the blood’s capacity to deliver oxygen as well as other nutrients to the body’s cells! Wheatgrass has been causing a stir in health & medical circles since the late 60’s and is classified as one of the most abundant superfoods known to man, Wheatgrass has been celebrated not only for it’s nutritional content, but for it’s cleansing & cell regeneration capabilities as well.
Wheatgrass is also a convenience food since it comes in a form that is quickly & effortlessly digested by our bodies. The chlorophyll content of Wheatgrass alone should be enough to convince most folks to give it a try. Being 70% crude chlorophyll, makes Wheatgrass the perfect food choice to increase energy levels & alkalinity. 1 fl. oz of Wheatgrass juice is equivalent to 2 1/2 lbs of dark green vegetables. Wheatgrass is also a complete protein containing 20+ amino acids & has higher protein densities than any other food source.

It would be really nice if people who don't know anything would stop posting anti-whatever nonsense just for the sake of being contrary which seems to happen on a regular basis. You know who you are. Knock it off.

The wheatgrass is the young grass of the common wheat plant. It is typically taken freshly pureed or blended as wheatgrass juice. It may also be taken as herbal drink or tea, capsule, or as an additive to food and beverage.

Among the key constituents of wheatgrass are chlorophyll, enzymes, and fiber. It is also one of the most highly alkaline foods, which means it may help a lot if you have problems with acidity. Wheatgrass also contains amino acids, vitamins including A, C, E, and B complex, and minerals that act acting as detoxifiers, anti-oxidants, and energy boosters.

- It may help improve the digestive system and stop constipation.
- It may help prevent diabetes.
- It appears to help enhance blood flow and circulation.
- It appears to help detoxify the system and may help protect against colon cancer.
- It may help in fighting anemia.
- It may help clear heavy metals from the bloodstream.
- It appears to promote general well-being.

You might want to do some additional research on this as it is a type of food that has a lot of beneficial stuff. People who discredit natural foods like these are actually doing us a lot of disservice.

It is good for nothing. (unless you are a herbivore?)

It is actually quite poor in nutrition, why do you think cows have to eat 18 hours a day? Cows use it basically to ferment it, and that's where they get most of the food value, from the volatile fatty acids and micro-organisms that do the fermenting. I've heard claims that chlorophyll has some sort of wonderful nutritional/healing qualities that can treat anemia for example, but that is complete nonsense.

There's a good article (starting a few paragraphs down) on it here.

If you ever get a chance to see The Skeptologists pilot (look on youtube) they investigated the claims and debunked them quite thoroughly.

The answerer who claimed it is "equal to 25 lbs of vegetables" is misinformed or more likely, just making stuff up. Their answer is not based on any scientific evidence. None of the other claims made by other answerers are based on scientific evidence. I repeat...wheat grass is a particularly POOR source of nutrition. Eat an apple.

Also, it tastes awful.

it contains a large amount of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. one pound of wheatgrass
is equal in nutritional value to 25 pounds of vegetables.

Its good for removing money from wallets. It has almost no nutritional value and claims made by proponents can not be supported scientifically.
