Question: Please help!!! i feel that i may be developing a serious problem!!?
i am a 15 year old that can NOT fall asleep for about an hour and a half when i try to go to bed at 10:30. recently, i had a cold and used NyQuil to help. I fell asleep so easily and loved it. so after i recovered i was still using the NyQuil because i love how it helps me fall asleep. but now, i feel that i cant go to bed without it! i don't know how to stop, or how to fall asleep easily without it and im scared that it may become a serious problem if i continue doing this. please help!!!

Tell your parents, if you haven't already, about this. They should then get you to a doctor (your own doctor, not a shrink) who will prescribe you something actually intended for sleeping if they feel you need it.

Addiction can start very innocently and easily. Your body gets accustomed to something that helps it function and it doesn't like it when you cut it out.

But you must stop taking the Nyquil and find a proper sleep medication if you find you do need one...because Nyquil has acetominaphen in it (aka: tylenol) and constant taking tylenol over time can damage your liver.

You cannot sleep for an hour and a half at 10:30, so try to adjust your schedule to 9 or 9:30, or put a sleeping mask and ear plugs on, whatever you need to try. I typically get 3 interrupted hours of sleep per night and function without any medication because if I take something for it, I am then out for 24 hours, and I'm a mom, so I can't do that.

Good luck, but the key is, get to a doctor to get you on the right treatment regimen before you screw up your liver!
