Drinking alcohol (vodka?) for medical purposes?!
Question: Drinking alcohol (vodka?) for medical purposes?
Would it be wise to put a bottle of alcohol in the disaster kit? If so, what kind would be best?
Don't liquors last forever if unopened?
Can you mix alcohol with water to make the water drinkable?
Answers:
Vodka can be used to cleanse wounds, but the isopropyl alcohol that you find in many first aid kits can't be consumed. The first is ethyl alcohol and the second is methyl.
It won't disinfect water.
The latest study shows that people who drink alcohol live longer than those who don't (surprise). One a day for women and two for men. Going overboard isn't healthy either.
For drinking, no. That would be stupid.
Rubbing alcohol would be wised. it is used as a disinfectant.
Boy Scouts
Nope. They sell additives in camping stores for making water potable.
