Do herbal remedies go bad after they expire or do they just lose effectiveness?
I have some old herbal medicine that went bad, I just wanted to know if I needed to throw it away. It was pretty expensive, otherwise I would just get more.

I meant to say that it expired, I can't tell if has gone bad.

It's fairly unlikely for them to go bad, but they may become ineffective as various phytochemicals break down or are consumed by other enzymes or oxidize.
A study was recently published where drugs, about 10 years past their expiration dates, were assayed and found to be completely potent and "useful."
