What medicines CAN I actually take?!

Question:

What medicines CAN I actually take?

I have contracted a severe cold, which is now on it's 5 day and STILL hasn't gotten any better, or let up any. I am also 9 weeks pregnant. I know there are about a million and one medicines/drugs I cannot take, however is there anything I CAN take for this heinous cold? It's making me absolutely miserable. I can't breathe!! Please help!!! Often they recommend Tylenol for everything, but I feel that it doesn't really affect/help me at all. I need something desperately!!

Thanks guys!

Hi Allyson, Chamomile tea had every few hours will ease the pain and reduce inflammation. Sage is beneficial in treating throat pains by reducing inflammations and protects the membranes of the mouth and throat, while garlic is a natural antibiotic helpful in speedy recovery and removal of bacteria in case of sore throat caused by flue or bacterial infection. Beside the above alternatives, one should take proper rest; drink extra fluids and gargle twice or thrice a day with warm salt water.

You can also use sage and thyme to make tea out of them. The warm herbal tea will help clear mucus out of your lungs.

Licorice tea is another great natural cough treatment. Licorice has antibacterial properties that will help you fight the bacteria that are causing the cough. It also soothes the throat and calms the respiratory tract; helping you get some much needed sleep. Make a cup of licorice tea and drink it as warm as possible, of course without burning throat.

Mix the olive oil and essential oils well, then apply the mixture to your chest and back. As you breathes in the fumes, breathing will get easier.

A humidifier is another great option when it comes to making your coughing more comfortable. Use a few of the same essential oils suggested above and run the humidifier in your bedroom.
