Mixing medicine with alcohol?!

Question:

Mixing medicine with alcohol?

What happens if you drink alcohol while on medicine (for example zyrtec, an allergy medicine), that says don't mix with alcohol?

Answers:

Zyrtec causes drowsiness. Alcohol causes drowsiness. Zyrtec + alcohol = big time drowsiness!

Medications say not to drink alcohol while on this medicine for lots of different reasons. For example, Flagyl (metronidazole) plus alcohol equals a horrible reaction where people can become violently nauseated, cramping, vomiting, etc. http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole... This is the same reaction that happens when people taking Anabuse drink. Anabuse is used by people with drinking problems to make them not drink alcohol, beause they'll become ill if they drink.
