Answers:
Arthritis is one of those things where some things that work for one person may be useless for someone else. I have been told that orthopedic surgeons in a hospital near me will not recommend glucosamine and chondroitin to their patients but - guess what - they all take it themselves. Studies have certainly shown it has a good effect on the knees. I have had problems with my wrists (I am a shiatsu practitioner) and have been taking 'jointassure' from Boots which has worked almost instantly and much better than glucosamine alone. I suspect it's the combination of fish oils, vtiamin E and ginger with the glucosamine, etc. that makes the difference. Although I know a bit about how these things work I don't have the skills to get all the elements in the most effective combination - that's what chemists are for! However, there are a number of homeopathic remedies that work (Rhus Tox is one, Bryonia another), but this is also an individual process and your best bet is to discuss it with a homeopath, or an osteopath or shiatsu practitioner who uses homeopathy as well - some of us do, and could assess you properly during a session. There are as many origins of arthritis as there are remedies - it's worth exploring what's out there. If you have a natural health clinic near you have a chat with someone who can take you through the potential options. And maybe check with your doctor that there's no underlying medical problem - ME can give similar symptoms, viruses can throw up arthritic reactions that last a long time after the virus has gone, even depression can stiffen the body alarmingly - so check it out.
Don't despair! You don't necessarily need a life of painkillers!
