Can I take St. Johns Wort with Wellbutrin?!

Question: I take Wellbutrin xl 150 mgs daily and have a bit of the winter blues. I don't want to up Wellbutrin (tried it w/ my doc, not good) and was wondering if taking a St. Johns Wort would help. It's otc, so is it necessary I call my doctor, or do I just give it a whirl?
Thanks :)

Do not take St. John's Wort with ANY antidepressants, ever. In Europe, it is a prescribed antidepressant. Anytime you are prescribed medication and want to add a herbal supplement, you do need to check with your doctor, because there are a lot of herbal/prescription interactions that can happen.

no idea

i would ask your daughter, but it most cases they dont recommend it.. i meant doctor....sorry....

no no no, never take st johns wort with any type of antidepressant.

and wellbutrin isnt anything to mess with. i was on it for a while. there are WAY too many risks with seizures. personally, i would switch to a new med.

Go to drugs.com and click on drug interactions checker - it should tell you...

No! If the amount of daylight you have been exposed to recently has reduced, perhaps due to the change of seasons, see Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) in section 2, at * http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and, instead of taking 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily; replace 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements for the winter months only! (or, as probably a better alternative to the 2 cod liver oil supplements: 1 teaspoonful of cod liver oil, with a little butter, to ensure its use; I take mine on sourdough rye bread, or toast, covered with fishpaste, and pepper, to mask the strong taste). Consider having your doctor test your vitamin D levels.

you should never take anything herbal without consulting your doctor first. a lot of herbs are contraindicated with other medications - st johns wort especially.
