Can cronic depression be cured?!

Question: It is a treatable condition, just like Diabetes and other physical health problems. Cure can be viewed as no relapse while on medication, if you can accept it. However, doctors ( like myself) are not God, so we cannot rule out a cure as in no medications. Psychological therapy can teach you coping skills so that you can forsee a relapse and take prevention steps to aviod sinking into depression.

There are people who have been cured, but most severe depression can be managed through therapy & medications.

It depends on whether or not you're willing to recieve help.

Yes u need to reduce ur stress and pull the positives out of the negatives. My mom suffers from severe depression and she takes meds and they actually make her worse and shre gained a lot of weight! My entire famile battles depression. U need to exercise and eat right take vitamins keep ur self busy and see ma physiciatrist! If they put u on meds. look them up on the internet before takling them. My mom too effexor and is now taking cymbalta and the effexor makes u gain weight and cymbalta makes her tired

Absolutely. It takes a lot of work and time... med trials, therapy, etc... and it isnt easy, but it can be cured or significantly improved to a point where you can function regularly. If the depression is serious and chronic though, it likely wont cure itself on its own.. you'll need to seek help if you havent already. For those who have gone through deep depressions, the depression sometimes does come back later in life, but hopefully at that point you have supports set up (doctors, etc) and know what works and what doesnt, so it's not as hard to come out of.

I'm not sure it can be cured, but it can be controlled with therapy and/or medication on the majority of people.

you have to have hope in every siduation and depression can be so debillitating. but there is always hope if you are willing to open yourself up to the possitve thing that can come out of it. setting your self a positive task each day. going out for a walk. doing a form of exercise you enjoy. reading.talking about how you feel for that day. take small steps and you will make big leaps.

most definitely. talk to your doctor, or call around for a free/low cost mental health clinic. medication, and therapy can do wonders for all kinds of mental issues / disorders. i'm living proof of that. my biggest issue was when my father died a slow death from prostate / bone cancer. i was a daddy's girl, he was my superman, and cancer was his kriptonite. cancer is non forgiving, painful, disfiguring, and a very slow death no one deserves to go through. it really done a lot to me mentally. medication, and counseling was the only was out. it took me a few years before i decided to give in to the fact i needed help with my mental issues, but self medication with alcohol was not working for me. give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. take care, and i pray for a fast recovery, barbara

Chronic Depression isn't a cold.
By defination, Chronic Depression is a life long medical condition such as high blood pressure or diabeties.
With medication, therapy and support groups you can go into a recovery state of mind. However it's wise to have a crisis plan in place with your support group and physicians when the depression re-occurs.
