Can manic episodes be brought on by bring back the past?!

Question: I am trying to understand bipolar. I was diagnosed last year but never medicated because I thought that I could deal with it myself or that maybe I was misdiagnosed but I can remember times in my past where I would go from one extreme to the other be xtrememly high then extremely depressed and this would go on for a couple of months and then I would be "normal" again. My husband even agrees with this statement so it's not in my head(the normal part) well last october I had one of these episodes and I had a relationship with another man(sexual). I don't really have feelings for him but one of the main reasons that the relationship started was because I really wanted to help him become a better person and for some reason I thought that I was the only person in the world that could possibly help him. he went to jail and while he was away I started to come back to my normal phase but over the weekend I ran into him now I have racing thoughts can't sleep and so on my q: is is he the

Well, you just described one of the classic symptoms of bipolar. Man, we can really pick some losers when we are manic. Acting out of the norm sexually is pretty standard.

I've done really close to what you described. A guy at work was fooling around with a co-workers wife and for SOME REASON I decided to take the situation into my hands and drew the guy away from the co-workers wife. I just SHAKE MY HEAD now but it SEEMED totally like the right thing to do.

Gosh, I don't think I've EVER been in a relationship with a man that DIDN'T start when I was going manic. Yes, I've had my share of losers. I always start swinging the other way and its like EEEwwwww, what did I SEE in this person.

Now, I play it safe... No men. No (new) crazy sexual episodes that I cringe to remember.

My advice is to STAY AWAY from that guy. Situations like that can SEND you toward mania (especially since you are NOT medicated).

Girl, go gets some meds. Your life will be a lot smoother and your husband will thank you for the reduction in DRAMA levels in the house.

your husband is not the cause.
no one else is the cause but yourself.
you can't deal with bipolar disorder on your own...
it's not like it's something really simple that can go away.
you need to go to a psychiatrist immediately.
going untreated will cause great pain to your and your loved ones....SO GO TO THE DOC. ASAP. otherwise you're going to screw up EVERY good thing you have.
trust me, even though i was 15 at the time, i lost some of my childhood friends and my newfound friendships with the greatest people because i chose to lie a lot when i was going through manic episodes. after my freshman year (i'm a junior) i've never been able to open up to people because i'm afraid of doing it again.

so instead of just laying around causing pain to your husband....go to the damn doctor.
you can't help yourself with this.
bipolar disorder causes a chemical imbalance in your brain.
you can't fix that one without medication, can ya?
i'm not trying to be mean but seriously...
you know that you are bipolar, you know that you are screwing up....why don't you go to the doctor?

Yes running into him could trigger an episode. And the inability to sleep is just another symptom. My mother suffers from the same disease. And I have lives with it my whole life. It is very unpredictable but if you learn to pay attention to yourself you can feel the onset of an episode. And therefore curb your behaviour. If your husband was able to see you through this without him making you hate your self even more than you already do, and you love him he's worth every effort you have. Please you have access to the web, search web MD for symptom's.

Yes, seeing him again could trigger an episode; any major life event can.

More importantly, don't be so hesitant to start medication. Bipolar people do not react well to anti-depressants alone, so that could be why you've had bad medication experiences up until now. It definitely sounds like you are bipolar and the main part of treatment is medication and it can make all the difference.

These are online info sources that I have for ManicDepression / Bipolar. Apparently, caffeine & chocolate are properties that some people have Very Severe Reactions to, having been misdiagnosed with various mental illness, instead of sensitivities to these substances! The second & third sources listed, are written by a person who was misdiagnosed for several decades!
