Do you think cutters should go to mental institues?!

Question: I don't know...I cut, but I don't think I belong in a mental institute...

Answers: I don't know...I cut, but I don't think I belong in a mental institute...

For cutting, no. If you have the desire to die, then it would be good to go to the hospital, which is totally different from being institutionalized. Hospitalization only lasts from about 3-7 days. But, if you don't want to die and are only experiencing some relief from your cutting, then I would suggest speaking with a counselor. As one myself, we're not so bad! We definitely understand. Reach out to your community and find a counselor who lyou honestly feel can help you. Take care.

It depends on a variety of things - is this the first and only time? How serious was the cut? Does your medical insurance cover mental institution hospitalization? Are there indications of other psychological issues? Is the cutter willing to talk about why he or she does this or does he or she clam up and refuse to discuss it? Depending on the circumstances, this might be able to be treated on an outpatient basis.

Maybe not a mental institute, but you should see a councilor or a therapist, doctor, shrink, whatever. It is not "normal" nor healthy behavior. I know, "normal" is a scary word, but from what I understand, cutting is a way of dealing with stress. The pain is therapeutic. There are other therapies out there that don't leave scars or risk infection, nerve damage, or death. Please, don't be afraid to seek help. If you don't like the first professional you talk to, shop around. They come in all types of personalities and approaches. Good luck to you.

I agree, it should be a choice. I used to cut, not to kill myself but just to have a pain that I could control! Now if you're doing it to kill yourself then yes, I think you should seek help.

NO YOU DO NOT .BUT YOU DO NEED LOTS OF THERAPY.YOU NEED WEEKLY VISITS TO A PROFESSIONAL AND A LITTLE MEDICATION.
