You might enjoy scary movies but they are also fueling your imagination. I used to watch a haunting (about real hauntings on tv all the time but I was getting so jumpy at night I had to stop. Also caffiene can make you jumpy. You need to change your internal dialogue if you want to get over this. Pay attention to what yiu are thinking when you turn the light out. Something like omg it seems like somethings chasing me... or something instead you need to r=try to remain calm and tell yourself okay there is nothing here that wasn't here a second ago and talk to yourself like you would if you were trying to make someone else feel better. It may sound stupid and it's hard at first but it works if you keep doing it. Hope this helps I wouldn't want you to break a toe running in the dark like that.

yes you do you have a pobia of the dark yoou sould see some help or put on a ninghtlight in the kitchen it not stupid to have one

Wow, I had this SAME problem! I was really scared, it was crazy! I'm 18, but this happened when I was 15-16. I started carrying my Bible with me because I didn't know much scripture by heart. Every time I was terrified, I would start to read (from Psalms) It gave me courage and a power inside of me. (the knife I carried around helped with the courage as well) After a while I could walk around saying a few lines repeatedly, and it helped so much!

buy a flashlight... there... problem solved.

about seeing things though... its your mind just trying to make up for the fact that you can't see anything, so it makes you visualize things.

if it really bothers you, see a psychotherapist and they will help you overcome your fear.

Using a flashlight and/or nightlight is NOT stupid. It really may help to reprogram your mind that there is really nothing to fear. I do remember feeling that way as a small child, and it was like the running almost added to the anxiety, making me MORE scared. Maybe it is something as simple as having had a bad dream that you don't remember that brought it on.

I really think that a small light in your room, and a flashlight when you do the dogs would help. Now, you have more times when you were scared, than not...but if you light your way, you could tip the scales, and start building some memories of safe passages.

If it continues to bother you, finding a good hypnotherapist who may be able to help you find the root of your fear may be your next step...good luck sweetie! Nothing wrong with leaving the light on. :)

something had to happen to you to make you afraid of the dark. mabey something happened to you in the dark and your brain blocked the memory,or it could be as simple as you saw a scary movie and it made you afraid of the dark.what ever it is your brain knows the answer.well your subcutaneous knows(that is a part of your brain that you are not aware of).i suggest you go to a hypnotist who can unlock your subcutaneous and change it so your not afraid.good luck

not at all you just have Lygophobia or Myctophobia (both means the same) which they mean Fear of darkness.
Many have these i myself know 3 people who have this phobia n he is 37 so your fine & like the other one said just put a night light in rooms there is not anything wrong with that. And maybe get some help if you feel you need it but really nothing wrong with it.

How about using a flashlight?
I have a "touch lamp" beside my bed.
Why would a night light be stupid if it stopped your paranoia?
Lots of people are afraid (or uncomfortable) in the dark.
My ex-boyfriend used to lock his bedroom door - if he didn't he couldn't sleep.
Everyone has something that freaks them out - some just won't admit to it.

But..But Nightlights & flashlight can help u. I brought a flashlight cuz I sometimes get scared when I'm in the dark but I guess nightlights don't really work anyway when I'm walking thought a dark room I just think about something else and ignore it even if u gotta run fast. (but I'm one year younger than u so maybe diffrent and maybe not)

Try putting nightlights in the rooms so that you will feel more calm.

I think perhaps if it bothers you then you should talk to someone about it. Can't live in fear. Did you have something happen to you that involved the dark when you were younger?
