What do people think of people who have bipolar disorder?!

Question: It's not always obvious that someone has bipolar - it is fully possible to lead a "normal" life without other folks knowing! Once you reach a certain stage of recovery or stability there is not necessarily any way someone else can tell apart perhaps from family and friends. As one in a hundred people have it you probably come across folks with bipolar without even realising it.

i dont know i kinda like myself LOL no really i dont have it but my husband is always going around saying i do... he says all women have it

People will think they are wierd/not want to be around them. It is a hard thing to overcome in a friendship.

I know some bipolar people.

enlightened and educated people will know that it is an illness and not judge

ignorant people will be mean because they are too stupid to know any better

They think they are crazy

lithium

that has to be, probably, the single most closed minded question that could ever be asked. The disease isnt a sufferers personality.. that is like askin what do you think of people with cancer! It is a disease that affects people of different backgrounds, with different opinions and different values. You cannot simply generalise it like that.

Tuff life

Good people like non-bipolars, but have it some what more difficult in live due to the disorder.

Probable the disorder that has benefited the most from the development and discoveries of advanced medications.

i really feel bad for them.
it must not be fun to not always have control of your emotions.
i mean my mom has problems with depression and it was never good for her so i can't imagine what its like to be bipolar.

sadly..with the whole brittney spears thing..people have a really bad opinion of people with bipolar disorder..but like anything else..it has levels of severity..but it's really treatable...it's just an imbalance that needs meds to regulate...I personally know a few people that are highly functional, successful, healthy bipolars who get treatment and stick with it and live totally normal, happy lives!

people with bi polar are just people the same as everyone else , people who cant see past the illness are narrow minded ,

What's sad is when people think of bipolar they think they of what the media has portrayed of bipolar. Anytime a movie star freaks or goes off the deep end in their eyes it must be due to being bipolar but most of the time it isn't true. Bipolar can be a very serious illness. Bipolar does not define you just like cancer doesn't define you. It can be managed with medicine but if not it can be very detrimental. It's annoying because for people who truly have the disorder and have it deal with it everyday and educate people to not be afraid of them and that they are "normal" people then someone in the media goes crazy or od's or does something really odd then they are "diagnosed as bipolar" and then the people who have it have to explain all over again that bipolars do not abandon their children and that bipolar parents can be loving children...but now that britney spears is bipolar all of that must not be true..... it's a circle cuz sometimes people with bipolar are only displayed with the negative views and not shown as normal in this society.

Oh SORRY I did not mean for my comment to be rude in any way. For me bipolar people are just regular people to me. I just don't like how the media portrays bipolar people.
I have family and friends that are and they bipolar so I know how frustrating it is...hope you are getting treatment. :-)

After being married for 23 yrs. to a bi-polar man, I can tell you it is not easy to live with one. Hubby wouldn't let the Dr. give him meds for it as he thought he wasn't that bad. He was. Other folks thought him arrogant, hateful & sometimes rude. I had to fight all the time to keep his spirits up during depression times. As I said, they are not easy to live with. I really feel rather sorry for them.

my husband is bipolar and he is getting meaner and more violent and my life gets worse each day

My best friend is bipolar. She refuses to go on meds because of some very bad experiences she's had in the past- so her moods are unstable, but in a predictable way. She regulates her behavior the best she can, and those of us who have been through her ups and downs before can typically figure out where she is by the way she's talking or acting- and we rarely take anything she says when we know she's up or down personally.

Essentially, it can be a pain in the *** sometimes. But she's my best friend, and we deal. She is who she is an I love and accept her for it- as mushy as that sounds.

well, my dh doesn't believe i have it. he's in the social services field, so of course that makes him an expert. NOT! i love him, but he's wrong. i don't have BP1, because i don't have the mania, but i do have BP2 with the more depressive episodes & the hypomania episodes.
if people are on their meds, you can't tell who's BP & who's not.
i have a friend who was FINE when i first met her...now all of a sudden she's on a ton of meds and claiming she's BP1. in her case? i think she wants the attention & to be off work! abusing the diagnosis makes me angry!
makes all BP people look bad.
JMO.
