I did! I am so proud!!
I suffered with real vertigo- not fear of heights but an inner ear problem about 4 years ago. I also had a bit of a nervous breakdown, and have since suffered mental health problems which escalated to the point o me not being able to leave the house, or go in a car without extreme fear.
But I've been trying really hard, I started going out and symptoms got bearable. My friend asked me to go on holiday with her. I knew this was a huge thing to agree to, since I was only just going in a car, let alone a plane! I'd flown before, but it was years ago before my problems had started, and I enjoyed it. I hope this would be the case again. I was very nervous and had a hard time travelling up to the airport, and I was very nervous. I took herbal qualms, I took a diazepam I had from the doctor, and bach's rescue remedy. I was hoping to enjoy take off but unfortunately I hated it! When I flew before I found it a real rush, as the plane accelerated. But this time I nearly flipped. I grabbed my friends hand and squeezed like hell. I knew I couldn't get off, so that was that. We eventually arrived and I forgot about it. When it was time to go home I was more nervous than before but this time the flight was actually better, because of a female pilot I think- much more considerate!
The only way you are going to get over it is to do it. Feelings of fear are horrible, but they can't actually hurt you. You just have to book the ticket, turn up, board the plane and stick it out. I know it sounds harsh, but how else are you going to do it? Ask the pilot not to go too high?! It really is the only way- face the fear, and win!!

Do what I do and take Amtrak if possible.

Maybe not flying???

I have a fear of flying and i find sleeping pills a great help, or relaxers!

get half winged before you fly?get it

have the same problem...i get worse...dont know what to do..just dont fly thats all:)

Acrophobia, or a fear of heights, is very common and usually resorts back to an experience in the past usually as a child. For some reason some people think it is funny to scare a child, not knowing the results it could cause. Overcoming something like this will take time and not disappear overnight or my jumping off a cliff. That could cause you more harm than good. Take baby steps. Find the highest point in your neighborhood and try to get to that point. It may take several tries but eventually you will reach it. Then after you have mastered that, move on to something a little higher. Keep going until you are comfortable. Be advised this could take days, months or even years depending on how serious your fear is. But if you really want to make this fear go away, you have to take the first step... up.

Hypnosis.

Get therapy.

flying is ok its hitting the ground at great speed that hurts

Try taking flying lessons. It's a good way to conquer your fear head on.

Mild tranquilizers cured my flying phobia. Talk to a doctor about a scrip.

I went to my doctor and got an anti anxiety pill called lorazapam. I took it for a year everytime i flew..which is a lot. After a year I flew without it and found i am now absolutely cured. My theory is that my brain learnt to associate flying with being clam and relaxed. I no longer need the drugs but recommend trying it. Just be sure to take the dose recommended or you will be acting weird when you arrive at your destination (I know from experience)

They do say it's the safest way to travel, but they still have to many unscheduled impacts into Terra Firma for that theory to be true

I cant be of much help here because I love flying. I cant get enough of it. For what its worth, its safer, by far, than driving.

I just drove 15 hours from WV to CT. ITs normally 8 hours for me but I drove in a constant downpour. I was so frustrated with that, crappy luck (the ENTIRE rest of the month of Feb was Beautiful... Its only when I have to drive), it convinced me to move south, which is my plan.

Just get a hold of some footage of auto accidents.

Either way I wish you all the luck

This can be a very serious issue. Many times our jobs or family problems make flying a necessity.

Fear of flying is not an intellectual issue that can be resolved by citing mortality rates for people who fly versus those who drive. Whatever may be causing your problem. you should seek professional help. But don't go to a psychiatrist who will give you five years of therapy. Find a therapist who can help you to improve fairly quickly. They're out there. You physician can probably recommend one to you.

My brother is terrified of flying. He spent a year in a combat zone in Viet Nam in the 1960s (he never got wounded, but it was a scary life). When it was time for him to leave, he refused to fly home. He spent two weeks in Da Nang waiting for a freighter, then two weeks crossing the Pacific, and then four days crossing the country to get to our home in North Carolina. Now, that's fear of flying! I would have flown home and would not have needed a plane to do so.

BTW, I've known several people who found flying at least tolerable after downing a couple of pre-flight shooters.
