Musical therapy for ADHD children?!

Question: Has anyone heard of using musical therapy on an ADHD child?
I'm looking to better my child's mood and keep him calm and happy.
My son has been diagnosed with ADHD, defiant oppositional disorder and anxiety.
We are trying out medication, and it helps him to focus but he's has anxiety and pretty grumpy most days.
Just wondering if anyone has tried music to help their child's behavior. If so which music did you use and do you have any helpful links.

Thanks :)

Music therapy is a wonderful idea. This will both stimulate and calm the nerves. This is very similar to neurofeedback therapy, which I have experienced. Music therapy is a great choice on manyt levels.

Another therapy that I believe would help ADHD is swimming lessons. Being the water calms the nerves, out of the erratic patterns of childhood thinking, to the calm, uniform constancy of the water, inciting control and adaptation to circumstance rather than forcing violent reaction (i.e. video games). Get rid of those.

Adderall for concentration
Xanax for anxiety

(perscribed of course)

One of the children I work with uses classical music as a sensory calming method. This can work especially well if he is experiencing sensory overload (a problem common with children with ADHD). Turning down lights, putting on soft music, and taking deep breaths allows him to "reset" and regain his focus.

If a controlled setting isn't available, headphones are an alternative (with the disadvantage being that they can be distracting). When using headphones, it is often advisable to just use one earpiece so that the child can still be communicated with.

My brother has ADHD and when he was about 12 he started listening to classical music. I really noticed a difference. He doesnt care so much, and doesnt stress as much over the little things.
Maybe make him join band, playing the piano or something. Something that will teach him patiance.
Also, try saint johns wart. Its an all natural suppliment that really helps for keeping my brother focused. I was diagnosed bipolar and I take it, and have also noticed a difference.
Good luck!
