Can eating disorders be caused by abuse?!

Question: If i deal with the abuse will the eating disorder go away?
has anyone else devolped an eating disorder after abuse?
should i tell my consellor i am not eating because of the anxiety caused by the prospect of dealing with the abuse?

No, but it can be the result of the abuse, it's a way you can control what's happening to you when you might find yourself feeling helpless at the hands of your abuser.

Definitely talk to your counselor about both the abuse and the disorder. My guess is that you'll have to deal with one(abuse) before you can resolve the other (eating disorder).

Good luck!

Yep. I think you're on to something.

Yes, a lot of horrible things can stem from abuse.<3

definitely because it's an issue of control. when you're being abused you tend to have a loss of control so you control what you can, which is food intake. my cousin was the classic example of this. and really for treatment, you have to treat both. you have to address both issues because eating disorders won't necessarily go away because after a while, the eating disorder way of thinking becomes habit. and you can definitely develop one after abuse because abuse is "dealt with" is not the only reason/cause for them. best wishes!

Yes. Eating disorders can be triggered by abuse. It is a good idea to tell your counsellor that you aren't eating.

There's a great way to get rid of phobias, fears, addictions, traumas and emotional issues in general. You can try it for both your abuse issue and the eating disorder. It's a technique called EFT which is costless, easy to do and very efficient.
