No eye contact?!

Question: You witness a young woman have a severe asthma attack. You can hear a loud wheeze as she's trying to breathe and it's obvious she's getting scared and fighting for each breath. She won't look at anyone. She just stares at the ground as she's wheezing.

Why won't she make eye contact with anyone?

Why won't she make eye contact with anyone?

she's concentrating on breathing and on staying alive, she's not thinking about looking at people.

she may be blind

she may be embarrassed, it is embarrassing

she may be focusing on surviving

when I have my attacks, and they ARE severe, the last thing I am thinking about is eye contact. I am focusing on the mere act of getting air into my lungs, and fast.

she is in distress. you should see if she is ok?

if not call for help...

uhhhhh why would she want to look at people in the eye ... Thats used for COMMUNICATING not trying to breath lol......................

maybe it's easier to concentrate if you look at inademant objects...or maybe she was just embarrassed. but my first reflex would be to look at the ground also.

she's TRYING TO BREATH -ffs!!

the eye contact thing has slipped on the list of priorities...

Its embarassing.. Everyones just staring at the person gasping to try to live.

It's called the flight mechanism. Once a human being is in distress they cannot make eye contact during this time. I don't know why, it's just human nature.

it is probably similar to the feeling of a panic attack if she is embarrassed scared or other personal feelings also she could be staring at the ground to concentrate on the breathing. Asthma can be very pain full and sometimes bending over feels more comfortable just depends is this you, a Friend or was it a stranger? Ways to help is ask if there is an inhaler if not suggest they sit get others out of there way and don't feed or offer drinks also see if they want you to call for help.
