Deep depression and anxiety!?!

Question: im a 22 year old male. for the last 5 or so years i have been so alone. ive been diagnosed with major depression disorder and generalized anxiety disorder and my doctor thinks im bi-polar.

about 6 months ago i moved out on my own. i thought that this was going to be a great thing for me. i thought that having some freedom and independence would help me with my issues. since then i have gotten exponentially worse. all the time i just feel like the world is coming down around me. i have a constant feeling of impending doom.
i feel like though my family is here for me that i am all alone. and i know im not so dont tell me that. but i just cant seem to get better. i also have a heart problem that causes me much distress. i cant afford insurance to have the surgery to fix it so i constantly am obsessing about dying. its all i ever think about. no matter what im doing i think about how that activity could somehow lead to my demise. I am not afraid of dying but i really dont want to.

Are you absolutely sure that these meds didn't work? Because I know from experience how bad the initial first few weeks of taking an anti depressant can be. They usually intensify symptoms and worsen them before they improve. This is how they work, has anyone warned you about that? Lots of people stop taking medication within the first 6 weeks because of side effects and become convinced they are beyond help. perhaps you need to stick with the meds long enough to give them a chance? If not are you able to acces some kind of therapy? CBT works wonders for some people esp when it comes to anxiety. There are also lts of support groups you can attend as I understand that even if your parent s are there for you it can feel lonely if no-one else knows exactly what you're going through. Sometimes being around others who are trying to cope too can be a great source of support. I really urge you to try and get therapy as it seems this obsession with death and your bad heart is triggering off all the bad feeling and therapisits can can help you to correct these thought patterns. Please don't despair there is so much help out there that does not cost a penny. I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction of seeting up a low cost healthcover plan, have you loooked intom charities? I am so sorry you are going through this extremely difficult time just keep faith that there is help out there and try and do the small things which may give you some comfort. take care x x x

I think you will find some relief with the paxil....What kind of "heart problem" do you have? It's not SVT is it?

It sounds like you've had a lot to deal with lately. Finding the right med can be a tricky business....and I know you know this already, but it's going to take a few weeks to see if the Paxil helps, and likely longer to figure out what dose works best for you. But hang in there, and definitely share all of these feelings and concerns with your doctor....a good doctor will hang in there and work with you to come up with the best solution. In addition to meds, have you and your doctor discussed therapy? Often meds and therapy together work better than one approach alone.

Good luck!

I was on paxil, I found it a great help, and like u I had generalised anxiety disorder and bad depression as well as OCD and intrusive thoughts about death and losing control. I dont live in USA so I dont know what you would be entitled to, but over here in Ireland u get a medical card and then all health care is free. There must be something for u. Stick with the paxil anyway, it took just over 2 weeks for me to feel the full benefit of it so dont give up. Good luck

look up the midwest center for stress and anxiety- they will send you a free cd- it helped me-

yeah its called your local community based services...state medical card..swallow your pride dude...if your life depends on it then apply. the worst that can happen is they say no you make too much money and you are exactly where you are now. Also alot of times the hospitals do payment plans and if the hospital bill looks like it is way beyond your means (after the surgery of course, if you tell em before they wont treat you) then they write off a percentage of it. You get the bill knocked down and they get a tax write off. actually they have to do this several times a year if the hospital brings in too much money. thats why there are ugly paintings that cost thousands and are no bigger than a cell phone in the lobbys...tax deductions.

Apply to your county social services office for medical assistance. You can get prescriptions thru WalMart of Shopko for $4 each per month. Most communities offer a clinic at no cost or on a sliding fee scale. What sort of treatment are you getting from this doctor?? It doesn't sound like its helping much. Perhaps you need a second opinion..

Hi

Take a moment and breathe.

I'm not sure where you are in the states but check with the social services department of your local hospital for information about reduced or free medical care.

Be sure to tell your doctor(s) everything that is going on. They can only treat your symptoms if they know them. Even things that don't seem connected may be. I understand doctors and bi-polar and the frustrations of getting a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Hang in there. I made it, you can, you will.
