Question: How can you tell the difference between just feeling sad, and actually being really depressed!?

sad is a temporary emotion that goes away!. depressed is a long-term condition that needs professional help!.

Feeling sad is a natural occuring emotion in response to a specific occurance!. For instance, if your dog died, you would be sad, but you would still be able to do things in your life that you liked to do!. Depression often will start out as sadness, but it will evolve to envelope every aspect of your life!. You will become unable to do the things that made you feel happy, because you will feel sad, or even guilty about doing them!. You will loose interest in the people around you, and very little, if anything will be important!. The severity of depression will not simply go away, and you will need help from family and loved ones, and you may even need counseling or medication!. If you feel sad all the time, it could be developing into depression, and you should seek out friends for support!. If you are so sad, and don't have friends anymore, then you need to seek out counseling!.
