How do i know if i have borderline personality disorder?? any suggestions?!

Question: How do i know if i have borderline personality disorder!?!? any suggestions!?
Answers:
I personally wouldn't bring up borderline personality disorder if you go to see a doctor!. I would just go and ask for a general diagnostic screening!. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (well misdiagnosed) 3 yrs ago!. I had that diagnostic label on me for 2!.5 years!. Even though they eventually changed the diagnoses that label is still with me!. I don't get treated well at hospitals (for physical problems) and no professional ever takes me seriously!. That was all because of one misdiagnoses!. I have nothing against people with this diagnosis, I have problems with the doctors who misdiagnose and the professionals who treat people with this diagnosis like ****!. Make sure you find a reputable psychiatrist or psychologist to do the screening!. My doctor thought because I had a wide range of emotions (good and bad) and because I don't get along with most people I had borderline personality!. I hope you find a good doctor and I wish you the best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk to a psychiatrist!. Write down all of your symptoms before going and tell him/her about what you want to get out of your treatment!. Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is a diagnosis that only a Psychiatrist or Psychologist can determine!.
My suggestion is to list your symptoms, and to ask a Psychologist to help determine what your difficulty is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

BJ, Sonya and Hope are right!. You need to write down all your behaviors and feelings (i!.e!. symptoms) and talk to someone who has treated borderline patients before!. It is really important that you find a professional who (a) believes BPD is a disease that really exists (b) thinks BPD is curable -- it would suck to have a professional think that the situation was hopeless and (c) who has treated BPD patients before!.
If you don't have money or insurance for a professional, get the book "Borderline Personality Demystified"!. I can't remember who wrote it, but its a pretty good overview of not only BPD but the other conditions that can occur along with BPD such as panic attacks, depression, etc!. The book kind of gets slow in the middle when he talks about brain function but the entire book is really full of useful information and doesn't make BPD sufferers sound like a bunch of incurable lepers who should be banned to an island in the Pacific!.
There are a lot of other good books people have suggested in this Answer group, so do a search on BPD to get some more ideas!.
Hang in there -- just recognizing there may be a problem and wanting to know more is an excellent sign!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
