Are there any ex-cutters that have been "cured" without any medication!

Question: Are there any ex-cutters that have been "cured" without any medication or therapy!?
At the young age of 14, I began to cut myself!. As I got older and became a part of the drug scene, my cutting and depression got worse!. When nobody realized what I was doing, I hit rock bottom when I tried to commit suicide by a bottle and pills!. After I woke from 2 days of sleep and no phone calls from anyone, I knew I was on my own, and living was all up to me!.
Well, I'm 21 now, haven't cut in 2 years, never been on any prescribed drugs, attended treatment, or been to a therapist!. I am a little thankful for that!. But recently the dark thoughts have been meandering through my mind, and once in a while I truly believe that ending this life is the answer!. My family is the one thing that keeps me here, but they are also the first ones to quickly disregard any deep, dark secrets I hold!.
Does anybody have any suggestions of what I might be able to do to rid myself of these terrible and disturbing ideas!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The last time I cut was just over a year ago, and that was relaspe from a year before!. I just one day was strong enough not to do it!. I realised i was punishing myself rather than those i was punishing through my own means!. I didnt take any presctiption drugs, although i did have a psycotherapist but i never told her about cutting myself!.

When life gets on top of me, and the idelisation of ending it all seems the only relief, and cutting myself would release some of my frustration, I really really want to do it!. But the one thing that keeps me from doing it is my boyfriend!. I dont' want him to have to deal with the cuts he will see!. Its hard enough dealing with your own emotions, btu having to deal with someone's reaction to your own is even more!. however close they are to you!.

I dont know if I will feel guilty if I did it , or if it will leave me feeling any better!. I know that once we experince something once or twice or for years, we will never forget how it felt and I don't think we can be fully cured!. I think we can jsut deal with it better!. I bet an ex heroine addict will always want one last hit, or an ex smoker will crave a fag once in while, but they dont give in, because they know from expericence how distructive it can be to do it just one more time!.

Once you know how your mind works and what triggers your thoughts, life can be so much more eaiser to deal with!. I also think you haven't lived if you haven't been to the dark place that everyone has inside them, and if you haven't been on a self distructive path!. Its not suprising you feel the way you do reading your question!. somepeople assum because something we went through years ago was dealt with then!. somethings like to catch up with us later on!

What doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger!. So no, I don't think you can be cured I just think you have more self control and regognition of what is good or bad for you!.

and the only suggstion i can give you to rid of your 'terrible and disturbing ideas' is to fight them off!. dont give in yourself, take everyday as it comes and then one day you will realise you you didnt want to anymore!.

i hope this helps, this is an attmept at explaining how i do it!!

take care :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. I don't know if "cured" is the right word, but therapy is needed to uncover the real reasons you cut!. Each person has their own,but I think all share the "seeing the pain" reason, and feeling the calming release of the pain being realized on a physical level, and not just emotional!.
In your case,I think you just had a wake up call, that if you wanted to live, you had to make the effort, and take care of you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no cure unless you find out what happened in your childhood that caused it and begin to deal with it!. You need to go to a psychologist!. There is no other way!. Clearly you don't have the strength of mind to deal with ordinary life!. It's not your fault, but most people find other ways to deal with their problems (for better or for worse) and clearly you are unable to so need assistance!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
