Yeah, they still exist!. I know they use them more in police stations than at mental hospitals!. Mental hospitals generally have their patients under control!. Medications, group therapy, and other behavior controlling proceedures are more in practice than padded walls and straight jackets!. However, if needed they'll be pulled out to protect the staff and other members of the house!.
Police use them probably on a daily basis across the country!. If you've ever watched "Inside American Jail" you'd know why!.!.!. People are crazy, and something have the mentality that they can escape from the cops if they harm the officers!.!.!. They're usually drunk though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I worked at a rehabilitation center that was in a big historical house!. It was creepy, but it was mostly for drug addicts and alcoholics, though it was also open to people with mental disabilities!.
As far as straight jackets and padded cells, I think so, but I don't think they are used very often at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know about the mansion thing, but the cell--yes!. I checked myself into a nice private facility to get help with a drinking problem a few years back and when I was being taken to my room, I saw one!. It had these chains coming from the wall with little handcuffs on it!. That and other charming qualities of the place lead me to check out the next day without getting the help I needed :( They really need to shut the doors on those things!.

In some places yes they stilll have mental hospitals (aka the big renovated mansions that house the mentally unstable)!. Padded cells, probably not so much!. I think straightjackets are also used but not for extended periods of time, just in extreme circumstances would be my guess!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i think you may have watched to many movies the mental health hospitals are very much civilized these days If a person is in danger to themselves and may hurt others they at the last resort may restrain them by doctors orders, but that is the last resort and only if they are about to harm others are themselvesWww@Answer-Health@Com
