How does anti-anxiety medication work?!

Question: How does anti-anxiety medication work!?
I plan on going to the doctor soon to be prescribed anti-anxiety medication (I'm not sure which one!. My mother said something close to paxil) mostly for my social problem and a bit for mild OCD!.

Obviously this medication has to alter your brain's chemical balance!. I'll probably ask my doctor more, but I'm interested in how this works!.

So
Answers:
It replaces the serotonin in your brain that is missing that's causing the anxiety!. The meds should not cause suicidal thoughts, if you're under 18 their is a slight risk of that though, if it happens tell your mom right away and the dr's will switch you to something better for you!. Good luck it will get better, I speak from personal experience, I had generalized anxiety disorder and have pretty much completely overcome it and no longer need meds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had anxiety and depression medications:

Depression meds:
Zoloft -didn't work for me
Paxil - made me feel crazy
Welbutrin - stop working after a while (and when I say worked, I mean, I had less depressive days)

Anxiety Meds:

Ativan (sp!?) - made me feel drunk and tired, which made me kind of forget about the bad stuff for the time being, but it's habit forming!.

Buspar (which is what I'm on now) has not fully kicked in yet, but I'm noticing my anxiety level is about 50% better already, and has also been proven to boost the sex drive in about 40% of women!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ok, so im on Lexapro, an anti-anxiety med!. Now what im gonnna tell you verites from person to person!.
Some poeple do fine on some brands, some people get worse on brands!. It all depends on you!. The meds are supossed to help the inbalence of chemicals in your brian!.

The only way to know which one will work best for you is trial and error!. I have to tell you!. the first med i was on, made me worse, or at the least didnt help!. But now im better on these meds!.

I wish you the best of luck, but with these meds its not so concrete!.!.!. it all really depends on the person!. so if you feel suicidal on the meds or anything of that sort you might want to tell your mom and get a different one!.

Agian i wish you the best of luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
