I am very sorry for your loss!. I lost my grndfather to the disease many years ago!. That experience changed my life and the direction of my career path!. I am an RN with a hospice!. I am sorry to hear the hspice covering your grandmother was not of much assistance!. I can tell you from my experience that when a patient is in a facility it is harder to provide the one on one care that hospice is known for!. Many facilities fight us and are resistant to our services!. On the other end fo the spectrum, many facilities think we are there to do ALL cares and they are neglected!. Not a good scenario either way!. As an RN case manager, I find myslef battling witht he staff nurses just to review a patient chart!.
If you were wanting to be involved in hospice or healthcare, there are many ways to do it!. In order to be a case manager in a hospice, you would need to be a registered nurse!. 2-4 years of college!. There are also social workers involved on all cases, 4 years of college!. There are certified nursing assistant positions available, 6 weeks to become certified!. Some places hire home health aides, they aren't certified, but in a hospice setting they would want you to have experience!. So if you are willing to go to school, your best bet would be to focus on nursing or social work!. Working for hospice has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life!. Sounds like your experience with your grandmother is driving you to give the love and care to other people in this world that I am sure you gave to her!. Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only schooling needed for you to start work immediately in the hospice field will be CPR training!. Only takes 1 hour!. So you can get someone breathing again until the EMT's arrive!. The entry level of hospice care is for you to take a patient into the shower, to the potty, help them get out of bed!. There are never enuf people to do this!. As you learn, you will get promoted to be the person who goes to the house to meet everyone in the beginning!. Later you will manage the entire hospice facility!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry to hear about you Grandmother!.

It's great that you wanted to take a more "righteous" path in life by helping others but don't make any decisions so early!. There are many other ways to help others that doesn't require you to give up your current job!. I suggest doing a random act of charity every week!. Like donate food, sponsor a nursing home or something of the same nature!. This way, you can still fulfill your charity work without having to sacrifice your job!.

It'd be great if there are more good people like you around!. cheers!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am very sorry for your loss!.

You could check into being an Ombudsman, which is someone who speaks for patients and you could do that with hospice or nursing homes and hospitals!.
