Question: Am I somehow mentally retarded!? !?
I'm 14 years old, and from the time that I entered 7th grade (just before I turned 13), something strange happened to me!. I used to be able to speak coherently, and schoolwork was a breeze, but now I constantly trip over, slur, and sometimes even forget the words that I'm about to say!. I also require a LOT more help with my schoolwork, I constantly forget things, and social situations are a lot more difficult than they should be!. My parents say that I have an abnormally high IQ, but the last IQ test I had was back in fifth grade, so therefore, I don't really believe them!. Is it possible that I somehow lost a fair chunk of my intelligence in-between 6th and 7th grade, or are my raging hormones simply messing with my mind!? Please help me!.

No worries, you are DEFINITELY not mentally retarded!. I realize you proofread your sentence but someone with an IQ of 70 or less would not be able to put together sentences in the manner that you did!. I'm not a doctor (and I suggest that you see one) but I have the same issues and I have ADD!. Although that gets diagnosed to death, you should at least get it ruled out!. you might also be having these EXACT symptoms if you are thinking very fast, then the words do come out jumbled!.
Start making notes about things you are supposed to do, in a small notebook, maybe about 3 by 2 inches or 3 by 5 inches, so you can write things down!.

I'm 14 as well and no, you're not!. When you grow you become hell unco coz ur not used to you're new height, etc!. You're brain's also going through tons of stress and different situations, so obviously you're speech will be blurred, you'll forget more things, and your sleep patterns may be abnormal from time to time, you'll probably also have the painters/ Aunty Red dropping in a irregular times!.

Could be hormones, could be nerves, could be a brain tumor!. Not trying to scare you, but I would ask to tell a doctor about this!.

i think your just being paranoid!. From what you have written here, your punctuation and grammar and spelling is impressive, and it doesn't seem to be a problem!. It's possible you have a learning disorder or speech disorder that is becoming more obvious as you enter the drastically different social situations of high school, or since your schoolwork has doubtlessly changed!.
Unless you have some sort of /massive/ nutritional imbalance, or an expanding brain tumor, it's EXTREMELY unlikely that you're getting less intelligent!. However, if you're having troubles with your schoolwork or requiring assistance, it's very possible you have something like Attention Deficit Disorder!. In any case, these can really only be evaluated by a trained professional!. There should be somebody at your school who can screen you for basic learning disorders, and if not, any qualified psychologist can do it!.

First off, someone that is mentally disabled wouldn't have been able to type what you just typed as well or as organized as you did!. I can assure you that you aren't mentally retarded!. However, when my mother had a stroke a small part of her brain became damaged, which caused her to slightly slur her words!. Also, when my brother got in a car accident part of his brain became damaged and he also slurs over some of his words hen he speaks!. Have you recently had any severe damage to your head!?
