What is better for treating depression: counseling or medication? Or, both?!

Question: What is better for treating depression: counseling or medication? Or, both?
I attended an initial counseling session today by a psychologist at college, and she referred me to counseling services outside of the university. I was wondering if counseling would be enough to change the way my mind views things, or if medication would be a better option? Or should I try to do both?

Answers:

Both will help you the most. Counseling will help you deal with your problems by expressing them with someone who will understand and help you put things into perspective. Medication, is not for 'crazy' people, despite common beliefs. Medication is ment to help you by making you not feel so upset so you can function. In time, with proper counseling and medicine, you will be able to function normally again without all these depressing thoughts.

Its a very long and slow process and yeah you need both really, the medication to kind of fix things upstairs and the counselling to get things off of your chest to a professional
