I was in Sainsbury's today...?!

Question: I was in Sainsbury's today...?
and I brought my stuff to the counter and realised that I'd forgotten the scotch bonnet chillies I wanted. I was in a que, so I didn't see any other option but to pick up the stuff I was paying for (it wasn't a great deal), put it back in a basket and and go and get some. As I did this, this old guy looked at me as if I was a lunatic and I can't really explain why but this threw me into a total rage... I stormed off muttering under my breath, something like: 'Yeah mate, it's confusing isn't it? F*cking d*ck-head' and went to get my chillies!

Do you think I have rage issues?!

Don't panic, it's not a rage issue. People can get confused and worried when other people don't act in the way they are expecting, and don't explain why, and the older we get the more this is the case. If you want to avoid this happening, the best thing is to very briefly explain, eg in the situation you described just announce to the people near you "Oh no! I've forgotten something! I've got to go back.". The alternative for the more introverted is to carry on as normal, then go back into the shop afterwards to buy the forgotten things. Either way, no funny looks. The reason you were angry was just that you felt embarrassed and self-conscious and that others might judge you a failure or oddball, in some sense. But of course we all fail or do odd things in all sorts of ways all the time, and no reasonable person is going to think any less of you for such a thing, and so what if they did?.

he was old, you were in his way, but not really. Chill. Go get the scotch bonnets (you are lucky, our very small Sainsbury's never has them in ,so we grow our own) and pick a different till.

They recently introduced self serve tills here. NOW that will make you reach for the Scotch (and not the bonnets).

If you hit him over the head with your basket, I'd say you have rage issues. Were you just feeling a bit embarrassed about having to put your stuff back in the basket and his look just made you feel worse?

I think you might be a bit bad-mannered and unable to control yourself.

I think the old guy had the hots for you. (;
