Sleep and mental illness?!

Question: Sleep and mental illness?
For the two years I have regularly experienced mood swings of being quiet happy, sad and angery. At first it was thought that it was just me being a teenager till it manifested into deep depressions that would last a day to a few days. Then feeling great which would last around the same amount of time or being intensely angery and becoming aggresive at things that are trivial and not being able to control it. Then about nine to ten months ago my sleeping pattern changed I was never a great sleeper from a young age but I go through weeks to months with little sleep then two or so weeks of great sleep and at it's worst not sleeping for 48 hours. Are the two related or two compleatly different problems I havnt been diagnosed with anything mentally yet but I am waiting list for a pshycologist for an evaluation.

Answers:

Sleep and mental illness go hand in hand. Too much sleep or too little sleep are common when you're unsettled mentally. I hope you get in to see the psychologist soon so that they may be able to give you something that stops you from feeling like you're stuck on a rollercoaster. But yes, the sleep pattern is definitely related to your emotions. My partner was depressed for a long time and he hardly slept at all. Now he is doing better and sleeps.

not to sound callous, but your question is asked a hundred times a week on this site. do a search and you'll get some tips.
