I would be studying something for college. I would start reading with intent to study. After a few minutes I would realize that I was thinking about something else and then I would refocus and start all over again. This basically repeated itself for the entire study session.
I would be having a conversation with someone and my mind would drift off to something else and they would have to ask me if I was paying attention.
Lectures were almost useless.
What I did to help myself:
Eat a healthy diet. I took out all artificial sweeteners. No diet sodas. No aspartame. No high fructose corn syrup either. In my experiments on myself sugar had a lot to do with how bad my ADD was. I cut out fast food and any foods with lots of chemicals and preservatives. When I studied I would snack on things with natural sugars. The brain works on glucose. Don't be fooled not all sugars are the same. I exercised outside everyday, even if it was just a 10 minute walk. I believe we all need to get some sun every day.
When I really need to focus. Adderall. I don't like to advocate any medication before trying everything else but it works.
This is what I have done. I am not a doctor. Make sure you talk to your doctor and do your own research.
