Could my dad be alcoholic?!
Question:
Could my dad be alcoholic?
During one week he drinks (on average)
-10.5 liters of beer
-1.7 liters of wine
-0.5 liters of brandy
I'm really worried.
Answers:
Your father may well be an alcoholic. A lot depends on how he drinks, and what he does when he drinks.
Does he *have* to have a drink, and behave abnormally until he gets one (is irritable, fidgety, or violent)?
Does his behaviour change dramatically when he drinks?
Does he drink a lot in one sitting (say 10 beers on a Friday night), or is it 3 beers and a glass of wine every night?
If it's yes to those questions, then he's probably an alcoholic. If it's no to most or all, that doesn't mean he's *NOT* an alcoholic. There are are very many high-functioning alcoholics out there who manage to hide their disease from the world. He may be one.
I would suggest you get in touch with Al-Anon or AlaTeen. They are support organisations for the families/children of alcoholics and can give you free expert, peer advice and counselling on your situation. A phone call to them will likely do you a world of good.
