I'm thinking of it...?!

Question:

I'm thinking of it...?

For several months, I've been battling depression, and recently, suicide has popped back into my head. I have gotten very close to slashing my wrists, and now it feels definate that I will. My question is, is what I should do? I have already told my parents, and they have gotten me in to see a councilor. It's not getting better. I don't want my parents to go through any more than they have.

Answers:

Dude, get your parents to get a referral for a psychiatrist who can prescribe something for your depression. A counselor is fine for problems short term, but it appears that you need some medication to life yourself out of your depression. By the way, if you have mentioned your suicidal thoughts to the counselor and the counselor didn't report it and get you immediate help - something's wrong with the counselor. There is the "Tarasoff Rule" that if someone says they are considering suicide or harm to another, that the counselor/psychiatrist must get you immediate help for 72 hours - it's a law, my friend, and the Code No. for getting you help is "5150" - a 72-hour hold. I wish you the best - don't off yourself - you sound like a nice person and killing yourself just brings deeper pain to those who care about you....consider them if you can't consider yourself right now. Do you want to leave your family and friends in deep grief or are you willing to see a psychiatrist and get meds to make you feel better? I'm not religious, but I'm saying a prayer for you. Nothing is worth killing yourself over when there are alternatives. Please, get medical help - you'll find that life has a lot more to offer than death. Good luck!
