Should I continue taking Citalopram (SSRI) when it made me feel sick?!

Question:

Should I continue taking Citalopram (SSRI) when it made me feel sick?

I took Citalopram for the first time last night. It made me feel very sick all night (I vomited) and I couldn't go to sleep until 5 in the morning. I've been unwell all day, too, and couldn't get myself to eat anything. I know that these are common side effects and that they're meant to lessen with time but I really don't want to feel like this for several weeks. I can't speak to my doctor until next week, so I can't ask her if I should take another pill tonight or not.

Have any of you taken Citalopram before? What's your advice?

Answers:

If you can't speak to your doctor, call your pharmacist. He / she should be able to tell you if these side effects are extreme. They sound extreme to me, but I'm not qualified to tell you one way or another. I've taken SSRIs (not citalopram) before, and I've experienced nausea, but they never caused vomiting.
