What do you do to maintain sanity when a kid leaves home?!
Question:
What do you do to maintain sanity when a kid leaves home?
What if he's on antidepressants, and over 21? What if you've already contacted his therapist, case worker, etc? Any other ideas? I have to give advice to a friend, and am batting zero right about now. (Animals are so much easier, in so many ways.)
Answers:
LOL! I agree, animals are easier.
Tell your friend to keep busy. She's gonna worry no matter what. Even if he were the perfect child, going off to college and you were rich, you'd still worry.
Worry is normal. But at some point, your friend needs to surrender to the fact that she's done her best, she raised him best she could and he is free to live his own life and make his own mistakes. She's gotta just stop interfering. She can offer him support, money, whatever. You can offer her a shoulder to cry on. At the end of the day, he's over 21 and is his own person.
