Anti depressants/anti anxiety medication...?

i've been depressed for 16 years of my life, and have had severe anxiety on and off as well. i've tried counseling, hypnotherapy and other approaches, but have always been terrified to try medications because i hear so many horror stories. however, at this point in time, i'm miserable for no reason, loosing so much weight that i'm dangerously skinny, and can't even get out of bed without crying. Obviously, i'm aware it's time to attempt to try something.

I hear so many horror stories, but I just want to ask:

Is there anyone out there who actually believes medication has saved their life, or greatly improved their life? Anyone who can say "I am so glad I began taking these pills!"????

YES! YES! YES! When my husband was coming home from Iraq I was a mess. I knew I had to drive quite a ways (to me) to get him at the airport and I get panic attacks when I drive. Then I was generally anxious about his return. What had he been through? Would he be the same? He'd been gone for over a year and I was afraid of how things were going to be. I have battled depression/anxiety/panic attacks for some time, but this was definitely the most anxious I had ever been. I had 3 panic attacks that day! I knew something had to change!

I ended up going on Zoloft and klonopin. It helped immensely. Please, try the medication, you have nothing to lose! I know that you are afraid to take anything because I was, too. I use to think I would have some type of reaction or become addicted but that was just the panic/anxiety talking. But finally, like you, I'd hit rock bottom. The horror stories are far and few between. And you are right, we never hear enough of the good things. If you have tried everything else to no avail it may be time to move to the next step.
