Can i stop taking anti depressants?

I have had depression for 6 months now and i think it is due to life circumstances, my anti depressants are not helping and netiher is the counsellor, i think i should just stop taking the anti depressants as i dont see them doing anything, has anyone else done this?

Do not stop your meds without talking to your doctor first. Some antidepressants need to be tapered down ( take less and less doses over a length of time) so that your body won't go into shock from being without. If you feel like your meds and counselor are not helping you, then it is time to find a new counselor! The best thing you could do is talk to your doctor and just be honest with him/her. Only you know how you are feeling and doctors/ counselors are not psychic. Sometimes you need to spell it out for them before they will listen. Don't give up and DON'T stop your meds! Good Luck!
