Answers:

My 13 year old son was also diagnosed as a very young child to have motor delays and a speech impairment. He is now 13 and still has both to some degree. Nothing has ever been mentioned of autism but I have wondered about it myself. Like yours, my son is amazing in math. He does college math like it was 2 + 2.

As long as your son is doing well on his own without help from others on a daily basis and can communicate his needs and wants clearly, I wouldn't worry so much about labels.

My oldest daughter is Learning Disabled. She is 15 and reads and writes on a 3rd grade level. She communicates well and is very capable of taking care of herself. Although she may not be able to make great grades. She is going to be self sufficient when she is of age. She knows she has more trouble then most children when it comes to learning and she and I address that in many different ways. She reads a lot at home and I help her to understand the meaning behind the words.

If you are truly concerned for your child and his future do to a diagnoses he received as a young child. You should for his interest as well as your own pursue having him tested. I would think though if there were concerns to be had.... his school would have come to you and let you know.
