A question about seeing therapists (psychiatrist/psychologist)?!

Question:

A question about seeing therapists (psychiatrist/psychologis...

anyone in their 20's that have seen a therapist about their problems? If so, what was the experience like? Was it effective overall...better than trying to solve the problem yourself or turning to friends and family? Is it common to seek a therapist in your 20's? Basically, do you recommend it for someone who has issues and problems in their lives and just wants to figure out the root of the problem and how to solve it from a professional standpoint? Let me know your thoughts.

Answers:

I started going to a therapist at age 26, and I only wish I'd gone sooner.
You don't have to be crazy or messed up to benefit from therapy. I had a lot going on in my life, and it helped me sort things out and feel more confident in the decisions I made. I also started taking better care of myself.
Many things in life are too much for a person to take on alone, and so many things just aren't the kind of stuff friends and family can help with, and that's where a therapist comes in. Their best interest is you.
If you can get a recommendation from someone who is already satisfied with a counselor, please do...try to find someone who is recommended by their patients, which can be hard to do. There are therapists out there that aren't great or just don't click with you, so don't be afraid to switch if one isn't right for you.

Good luck!
